History
The first Salt’n Pepper restaurant was established in 1983 by hotelier, restaurateur and entrepreneur Mahmood Akbar, considered as the pioneer restaurateur in Pakistan.
The organisation prides itself on developing Pakistan’s first chain of restaurants - the Salt’n Pepper restaurants. For 30 years, the group’s focus has been to provide their guests with an exceptional dining experience each and every time. The group’s profile includes expertise in Pakistani, Chinese, Pan-Asian, Indian and Continental cuisine, along with fast food.
Restaurants and other projects
The organisation operates various Salt’n Pepper restaurant brands across Pakistan, each offering a unique dining experience. The group’s chronology of success is as follows:
1983: Salt’n Pepper Restaurants
Opening of the Salt’n Pepper Restaurant in Liberty Market and on The Mall Road in Lahore – the first proper family-style restaurants in the food industry of Pakistan. These restaurants pride themselves for being symbolised as an eatery with a customer loyalty spanning over three generations, and as a restaurant model these have inspired numerous other restaurants across Pakistan.
1992: Salt’n Pepper Village Restaurants
Salt’n Pepper Village restaurants are the group’s most revolutionary and innovative theme restaurants. The first Salt’n Pepper Village Restaurant was opened to international acclaim in Lahore in 1992. The sister restaurant in Sindh was successfully opened in Karachi in 1998.
The Salt’n Pepper Village restaurants are designed to embody the festive air of a Pakistani food bazaar. These restaurants are artistically decorated in traditionally Punjabi and Sindhi colours and designs, and have a unique style of presentation, which we call “Live Buffet”. Most of the food is cooked before our guests, as it would be on a resplendent food bazaar. While the quality of food and service is high class, the festive atmosphere and energy of the traditional province food eateries is maintained. These restaurants have garnered international recognition and are regularly visited by a large number of dignitaries and food lovers from both Pakistan and abroad.
The Karachi Village restaurant is situated on the D.H.A. coast and offers diners scenic views of the Arabian Sea. It is widely considered to be one of the largest and most popular restaurants in Karachi. Its fame is largely due to exceptional quality of food and warm, personalised service.
The Lahore Village restaurant has hosted both Princess Diana and Benazir Bhutto and is a traditional favourite of Ramazan Iftari and Sehri dining. Its central location in Lahore’s famously busy restaurant centre on M.M. Alam Road has made it a popular dining choice for Pakistani barbecue dishes and traditional Pakistani food lovers.
2005: Salt’n Pepper Grill
The Salt’n Pepper Grill is located in the heart of Gulberg, Lahore and has both indoor and garden seating. It is a casual restaurant specializing in grilled and BBQ items. It offers an à la carte menu along with an elaborate buffet. It is open for lunches and dinners.
